Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s Victor Joseph is among top golfers expected to compete in the All Africa Challenge Zone Four Championship, which tees off on May 4 in Bujumbura, Burundi.
Tanzania will field four golfers in the week-long tournament, according Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) chairman, Chris Martin.
Martin said yesterday that Joseph was among 11 golfers making up the provisional squad for the much anticipated event.
Also on the list are Abbas Adam, Said Adam, Ali Mcharo, George Sembi, Geofrey, Gwacha, isihaka, Damas Geitina, Richard Mtweve, Babu lazier, and Aidan Ziku.
Martin said the squad will be trimmed to four two or three days before the championship roars into life.
Golfers from 12 countries, namely Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and hosts Burundi will compete in the event.
“The golfers are now camping in Arusha under the tutelage of coach Fadhil Nkya,” said the TGU chairman. He said golfers making the squad have all it takes to steal show in the 72-hole stroke play tournament.
Last year’s championship took place in Mombasa, Kenya, where Tanzania finished third.
He expressed optimism that the country will emerge overall winner in Burundi.
