Dar es Salaam. Tanzania representatives in the Africa Champions League, Simba Sports Club, have been eliminated from the competition following a 4-1 defeat in the hands of TP Mazembe of DR Congo. The results are the biggest blow to the Msimbazi Boys who did not win a single match away in the Groups Stage.
The match at Stade TP Mazembe was a thrilling one and Simba were the first to score in the second minute through Emmanuel Okwi following a commendable pass from Haruna Niyonzima. The goal seemed to shock TP Mazembe players and fans who did not believe after their team conceded at the home ground. Defensive blunder on Simba’s side allowed TP Mazembe to equalise through Kabaso Chongo in the 22nd minute following a good pass from Jackson Muleka.
The goal left Simba players confused allowing TP Mazembe to dominate the encounter. This made the side to score the second goal in the 38th through Meshack Elia.
TP Mazembe started the second half with a bang and continued to attack the Simba goal.
The DRC giants celebrated the third goal in the 62nd through long serving striker, Tresor Mputu following mistakes made by Simba’s defenders, Ugandan Juuko Murshid and Zana Coulibaly from Cote d’Ivoire.
Simba may have scored the second goal in the 65th through Haruna Niyonzima but his shot was too wide. Jackson Muleka nailed the fourth goal in the 75th. Goalkeeper Aishi Manula was the man to be commended following brilliant saves in the encounter. TP Mazembe will now face the winner between Esperance of Tunisia and Club Sportif Constantinois of Algeria on April 26.
