Mombasa. Spedag Interfreight of Mombasa made a flying start to the Kenya Women Premier League when they registered a 1-0 victory over Makolanders during a league opener at Jericho ground in Nairobi on Saturday morning.

Spedag, who were without their two Harambee Starlets players – Terry Ouko and Sharon Bushenei – and the injured Jackline Ogol, got their winning goal in the 10th minute through former Kenya national team star midfielder, Rachel Wanini.

Spedag head coach, Joseph Oyoo, said he was happy to see his players making a good start to the league and played as per his instructions.

He expressed confidence to win their second away outing against Old is Gold at Pumwani Technical ground on Sunday. “We want to return home with all maximum six points,” said Oyoo. “We are participating in the league as serious contenders.” He added he would not field Terry and Sharon because they have not trained together with other players for longer period.
