Dar es Salaam. Mr Mafutah Bunini is the acting Treasury registrar following the retirement of Dr Oswald Mashindano, The Citizen has learnt.

Speaking to The Citizen, the chief communication officer in the ministry of Finance and Planning, Mr Benny Mwaipaja, disclosed that Dr Mashindano retired since January 14.

Dr Mashindano had worked in that position for slightly over a year after being appointed as the Treasury registrar by President John Magufuli on December 7, 2016.

Clarifying on the changes within the Treasury, Mr Mwaipaja said such changes would not hamper the way they discharge their duties, adding that Dr Mashindano retired from the public service in accordance with the current regulations.

When contacted for comment, Dr Mashindano yesterday admitted that he had already retired and that he has been receiving medical treatment in India until last week.

Regarding his plan for future contribution to building the country’s development, he said that he was set to resume working with Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF), as a Principal Research Associate and lecturing at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM).

“You know before being appointed to Treasury office, I was a principal research associate with ESRF. After recovering from an illness, I will be working with them in the same position,” he said.

Before holding such senior positions, Dr Mashindano was a senior lecturer at UDSM and Senior Researcher of Economic Research Bureau at the university.

For the past 18 years before 2016, Dr Mashindano had been undertaking research and lecturing at UDSM, the number one university in the country.

His areas of competency include Microeconomics, Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, and Natural Resources and Environmental Economics.

Besides, he has been lecturing on Quantitative Methods and Research Methodology.

Dr Mashindano is the author of a number of publications. The most recent published articles include; Private Foreign Investment and the Poorest Countries: The Case of Tanzania; and The Agricultural Sector and Poverty in Tanzania: The Impact and Future of the Reform Process.

The veteran don has also coauthored several books; including Maendeleo Stahimilivu (Sustainable Development); Tourism Growth and Sustainable Development and Mining for Sustainable Development in Tanzania.
